January 2005

In this issue:

Greetings,

Along with the arrival of a new year, comes a new opportunity to start fresh, to re-commit to the journey and the destination. This is also a time to re-assess how you are navigating the gap between your current reality and your highest vision of what you most desire to be, do and have in your professional and your personal life.

For me, the New Year brought a surge of excitement. Somehow, I sense that I am at the beginning of the second half of my life and that has intensified my “fire in the belly” urge to grow, learn, lead, inspire others and challenge myself as never before. I am particularly excited about the new course of professional development I have embarked on. I am doing (mostly on-line) graduate studies through Naropa University in Boulder in a program called Authentic Leadership. This program is keeping me on the leading edge of the new thinking in the area of leadership, organizational development and personal mastery.

In the midst of this fierce enthusiasm, I have also been very conscious of the pain that was experienced by so many people touched by the earthquake and the tsunami.

Along with the donations I have made, I have written the following poetic reflections:

Poem for the victims of the tsunami: In empathy…

As most of us in the Western world were going about our hectic lives
You were greeting the morning in the warmth of your faithful sun.
As you were setting out to love, work, feed your children, or pray,
You could not have imagined even in your worst nightmare what was about to happen.
You could not have imagined that the next instant may be your last,
You could not have imagined that in the next moment, you may see your child swept away mercilessly by the force of the ocean.
And as the earth rumbled beneath your feet, the devastating tragedy had just begun.
As we continue to see your suffering from the comfort of our homes, we cannot even imagine what it must really be like.
Yet, across the distance, your anguish reverberates in our hearts and we are responding to the call with our prayers, with our healing thoughts and with our financial resources.
In the intensity of your suffering, do know that you have given us a most precious reminder. That of honoring and living for what is most, most important.

Are you living for what is most important?

Of course what is most important varies among individuals, but there is much commonality in what most people value. Loving, belonging, living up to our potential, serving and helping others are surely the most common values we want to hold like a precious fiber running through the fabric of our destiny. Yet, in the rush of daily lives, it’s not uncommon to loose our connection with what simply is most important.

As a way to help you return to a state of mindfulness and appreciation for the precious moment that is now, I am sharing the following poem, written from the voice of time. If time has a voice, this is what I imagined that it would say to us:

From the Voice of Time:

Many of you attempt to save me or manage me.
But despite your efforts, I remain, unchanged.
Yet, I bring forth change itself as surely as the sun rises over the horizon at dawn.
My pace appears as an eternity when you feel that you are somehow being held captive.
Yet, I seem to fly at the speed of light when you are captivated by the loving spell of your beloved in a tender embrace.
You may wonder how I so quickly dissolve while you are drenched in laughter and joy.
And when grief strikes, you are longing to be fast-forwarded beyond the tunnel of pain.
When you are in a frantic race against me, you fail to hear the gentle whispers of your soul.
Some of you recognize that I will never stand still nor wait for you.
In spite of your insistence on declaring me insufficient, I persist in giving you the chance to savour the moments afforded by the breath of your life.
And as you do so, you will find plenty of now-ness in each and every instant.

Wishing you a fabulous year in every way.Until next time, be whole, be well and be true to yourself,

Isabelle.
