Inspired News from Isabelle – May/June 06

In this issue:

Greetings,

With still fresh and tender memories, I have now fully landed back to Vancouver following my attendance and participation in the conference Quest for Global Healing that occurred in early May in Bali, Indonesia.

Isabelle with Desmond TutoThis large gathering of kindred spirits assembled over 600 people from 30 countries.  Desmond Tutu (with me on the photo) spoke at the conference along with Nobel Peace laureates, authors and global activists, all delivering inspiring messages under the glowing sun of Ubud in Bali.  Throughout the conference days, we had several opportunities to see magnificent displays of culture through dance, art, processions and sacred ceremonies.

BaliDuring that week in Bali, I had wonderful conversations with conference attendees and some of the presenters. But getting to know a little about the Balinese way of life through my 2 local Balinese friends (Sang Tu on the left and Plentung on the right) impacted me most deeply.   As I was getting a glimpse into the Balinese culture and traditions I was in awe of the pervasive presence of spirituality in the moments and actions of their day to day life.  In the devotional art of offerings they make daily as they pray or in the primacy of their family bonds, the Balinese I got to know are living from the heart.

Bali dancersTheir inner beauty shines forth as their gratitude and reverence for nature informs the course of their life.  The Balinese have an immense inner richness, dignity and resourcefulness and it is painful to know that many of them are living in material poverty with scarcely enough to afford the nutritious food they would like or to pay for the education of their children beyond primary school.

BaliWith Sang Tu as my chauffeur and guide, I got to travel outside of Ubud and to visit some of the temples on the island. The one on this photo was particularly magnificent.  I strongly encourage you to consider Bali as your next destination to resource yourself, to be nudged away from the fast pace of Western life and to be moved deeply by the beauty of the people and nature in Bali.

In gratitude,

Isabelle

News about my upcoming book

Back in the world of words, my book The Boomers’ Call: Living Forward, Giving Back is unfolding well and I expect to have the published version in my hands at the beginning of next year.

Meanwhile, I am still seeking more stories about Baby boomers reinventing themselves creatively through the transitions of mid-life or retirement.  Please let me know by e-mail if you would like to contribute your story. info@inspiredmomentum.com

Life Legacy Circles

In the fall, (date and place to be announced) I will lead Life Legacy Circles that will enable the participants to gain new perspectives on the trajectory of their life, to become more pro-active in leading (not leaving) their life legacy from an intentional attitude, and to renew their commitment to making a difference with the second half of their life.
