Living Forward, Giving Back - Book launch invitation

After 3 years in the making, weaving together stories, insights, information, and inspiration, my book Living Forward, Giving Back: A Practical Guide to Fulfillment in Midlife and Beyond has just been published!

Among the endorsements the book received, the one from Lynne Twist states that it is a “timely and important book”.  Especially with the new changes in the political climate, Living Forward, Giving Back echoes Barack Obama’s comments, on the night of his wondrous victory.  Indeed, these times demand that we collaborate and be of service as never before while we embrace humanity’s ideals and life-affirming values.

If you were born between 1946 and 1964, particularly, this book can help you:

  • recognize and embrace the developmental opportunities of midlife and beyond
  • understand the crucial considerations for a fulfilling and joyful future retirement or “re-engagement”
  • clarify how you can “lead your legacy” and live forward while giving back to your community and humanity as a whole
  • integrate, in your own way, practices that enrich the meaning and quality of your life.
  • reignite your potential and passions while freeing up your creativity and your generosity of spirit.

You are invited to join me in a wonderful and inspiring evening event in celebration of my new book.  It will take place on December 5, 2008 at 7:30pm at the Canadian Memorial Church and Centre for Peace, at 1825 West 16th Avenue (near Burrard St.) in Vancouver.

My book contains several references to Bali, Indonesia and my modest story of helping two Balinese people to further their education.  Now I am committed to assist more young persons to access education there.  At least 10% of sales between December 1st and February 28, 2009 will go to sponsoring at least one young Balinese’s education in Bali next year.

Among the changes on my site now, you can see, by clicking on the newsletter/resources, website links of organizations that are contributing to the betterment of our world.  These are also listed in my book.

If distance prevents you from attending the launch, please consider getting a copy of Living Forward, Giving Back, through my site and at once support education in Bali.

Instigating a new life in 2009?

With a fresh new year about to begin, you may be among those considering the services of a life or business coach. Perhaps you want to pursue a fading dream, get out of a rut, achieve more success in your business or navigate a life transition such as a career change or even retirement.  Several factors are important to consider in the process of choosing a professional coach; one that is most often overlooked is whether the coach “walks the talk” and has “gone the distance” on their own journey of growth.

In the course of a recent coaching session with a client in transition, I had an insight about why, aside from formal training, the personal development of a coach is of crucial importance. Even when clients have great self-awareness, they can not fully see all of who they are because, as I’ve heard it said, “when we’re inside the frame, we can’t see the picture.”  Often clients begin the coaching process feeling lost and estranged from their True North.  They need help to realign with their Source Energy and reconnect with their inner compass, the ultimate guidance system within them.

A strong factor of effectiveness in a coach is the ability to identify, draw forth and mirror back, the authentic strengths and inner dynamics of the client. In a metaphorical way, this is akin to a seasoned musician helping another to find the “right” note to play a piece on a piano.  A highly experienced musician would just “know” when the correct note is played in harmony with other notes. But we can only really “hear”, and recognize the best qualities of another, such as leadership or greatness, if we have experienced these within ourselves as result of growth and reconnection with Source Energy within. The whole spectrum of energies and qualities reside within this source enabling an evolved coach to resonate with and enhance this infinite resource in their clients; thus empowering them to better embrace the vastness of their potentiality.

Often, I am moved to see clients progress in their ability to achieve what makes their heart sing, partly as result of this resonance occurring in our coaching relationship. While they discard self-limiting beliefs, learn to embody their values and take ownership of their deepest strengths, they become more attuned to their highest purpose.  Just like a well tuned musical instrument can become the clear channel for an inspired piece of music, we can remove the blocks and restore the inner alignment that fosters clear, engaged and joyful states of being.  With the expanded self-concept and confidence that results from this self-attunement, clients are well on their way to greater harmony and wealth in all aspects of their life.  The coaching helps them to sustain their momentum while they keep focusing their thoughts and taking action to manifest what they passionately pursue.

In 2009, go beyond resolutions and learn to grow sustained resolve so that you can thrive and create the life you are meant to lead. And remember that dreams are the children of the Soul; if we let them vanish we may some day awaken to the same painful regrets as if we had abandoned our own real children. Those on a quest to find a coach are wise to ask the coach they approach about, not only their experience, but also the extent of the coach’s own personal growth journey. If a professional coach has travelled extensively on their self-development path and there is a good “fit” between you, follow your intuitive promptings.  You may achieve formidable breakthroughs in 2009 and create a whole new life, a life that reflects your true worth and your True North.
