Inspired News from Isabelle – Winter 2009 Issue
In this issue:
February – at the Heart of Relationships
As you know, around the 14th of this month, our culture reminded us to express our love to those we most cherish. The one relationship we often forget to honor is to ourselves. Many of us have blind spots in that regard because we tend to direct our love outward towards others and to overlook the places in ourselves that need to be filled with our own unconditional love. This is a recurring theme that I see in my coaching practice. No matter how accomplished a person is in their adult life, it is common to feel, deep down a yearning for more self-acceptance and love. And the present economic challenges around us seem to further exacerbate the sense of “not enough” that often linger under the surface of our awareness.
As the work unfolds during sessions with clients, I see them heal, release that illusion of inner lack and stop holding back love and full acceptance for themselves. They become better able to shift past their fears, to really show up boldly, harvest the full spectrum of their potential and change their life.
I invite you to consider the following question:
How would my life be different if I were to stop withholding unconditional love and acceptance from myself?
In the chapter on Relationships in my book Living Forward, Giving Back, I point out that in midlife especially, partners may not realize that the flow of love has gradually diminished much like clogged arteries can end up restricting the flow of blood in a body. When there is an accumulation of unfinished business, built-up resentments, and taboo subjects, communication is typically shallow and this contributes to a reduced flow of love between partners. If this metaphor resonates with what your experience and you reside in B.C.’s lower mainland, you may consider attending the relationship seminar series I will co-lead this spring in Vancouver. Look up the events below for further information.
Beyond RRSP – Crucial Factors in Reengagement
It’s that time of year again; we are urged to invest, save and plan for the future and especially for an eventual retirement. The boomers’ generation now realizes that many other factors need to be addressed, aside from financial security, as they approach this important life transition. If you are within 5 years of entering that time, I can help you gain greater clarity about the 15 success factors that are crucial to think through as you orient yourself towards a fulfilling, longevity-
enhancing, and reengagement. I welcome your e-mail or phone call for more details about this worthwhile process.
Wellness considerations and Recommended Reading
Are you among those who, at the start of this year, were determined to change your eating habits and take actions to further improve your health and fitness? Have you maintained your intentions to make lasting change in that area of your life?
In the Wellness chapter of my book I suggest that we cultivate a new relationship with food by being increasingly discerning about what, when, and how much we eat. I’ve discovered and recommend a new book that explores this in great depth. It’s called Mindful Eating: A Guide to Rediscovering a Healthy and Joyful Relationship with Food by Jan Chozen Bays, MD.
